Tor HaMidbar NGO develops Israel's geo-social periphery by building and mentoring urban communities that run social businesses. Our model for action is to utilize local residents to define problems specific to their neighborhoods and seek relevant and sustainable solutions.
Tor HaMidbar believes that these goals can be reached by:
-
Encouraging retention and relocation of young adults to the periphery
-
Enhancing a connection and commitment to the area
-
Promoting economic development
Tor HaMidbar mentors and provides a platform for mission-driven communities: groups of young adults who relocate to the periphery and operate social projects with the local community.
Tor HaMidbar guides social business entrepreneurs in creating initiatives that answer a felt need and have a sustainable model for longevity.
Tor HaMidbar was founded by members of the Kama Community, an intentional community started by a group of young Israelis and families in Be’er Sheva who share a vision of how to create a more egalitarian society in Israel’s periphery.
