Community Building

Tor HaMidbar believes that intentional communities are one of the more effective ways to create a sense of belonging and meaning amongst young adults. Intentional communities are those that are committed to promoting social action in the social and geographical periphery of Israel by settling in underprivileged neighborhoods and becoming part of the local community.
Tor HaMidbar's community incubator initiates and provides guidance for socially active communities in order to promote an active civic society, young leadership and a stronger periphery. Tor HaMidbar has created a network of 24 of these communities with each community creating their own unique lifestyle and running social initiatives according to the needs that arise from local and new residents.
Tor HaMidbar helps the communities on five different levels:
-
Providing guidance in developing the social aspect of the community
-
Developing social projects and initiatives
-
Creating a national network of communities
-
Creating partnerships with regional councils
-
Providing an organizational, financial and legal framework

Projects for Social Change
Nachal (“Youth Pioneer Soldiers”) is a brigade in the Israeli army made up of Israeli youth who were together in youth movements before their military service. The Community Incubator helps members of the Nachal Brigade find their way and form socially involvedl communities after their army service.
The Community Incubator accompanies the process of forming the community - building a shared vision, goals and objectives, the institutionalization of communal lifestyles, building strong internal leadership.
Each community designs and implements its own professional social action project. The Community Incubator assists the process of building and developing a social project or business - mapping needs, creating a work plan, creating partnerships , leveraging and operating the project.
